Arsenal Make Champions League History with 7-1 Rout of PSV

Arsenal made history by becoming the first team to score seven goals in an away Champions League knockout game, defeating PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the first leg.

The Gunners’ dominance started from the beginning, with Jurriën Timber opening the scoring in the 18th minute. Teenager Ethan Nwaneri followed with a goal just minutes later, and Mikel Merino added his name to the scoresheet in the 31st minute. PSV pulled one back from Noa Lang’s penalty but Arsenal took control again with two goals in the second half.

Martin Ødegaard scored twice, including a stunning goal in the 73rd minute, and Leandro Trossard added another before Riccardo Calafiori sealed the rout with five minutes to spare. The win marked a significant improvement for Arsenal after their recent Premier League struggles, with midfielder Declan Rice praising his team’s performance.

PSV struggled to cope with Arsenal’s attacking onslaught, which was driven by the left side of the Gunners’ attack. “We were constantly running after them,” PSV defender Olivier Boscagli said. “They were simply better than us in everything.” The Dutch club has never conceded seven goals at home before, and their defeat marked a significant blow to their Champions League hopes.
