Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in London. The charges relate to three women and allegedly took place between 2021 and 2022. Partey, 32, denies the allegations and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
Partey was first arrested in July 2022 but continued playing for Arsenal during the ongoing investigation. His lawyer has stated that he has cooperated with police and CPS throughout the three-year inquiry. The Ghana international played for Arsenal from 2020 to 2023, making 52 appearances last season before his contract expired.
The Metropolitan Police said an investigation began in February 2022 after a report of rape was received. Detectives are now seeking information about the case and supporting those affected. Partey’s team has stated that due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club cannot comment on the matter.
