Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now release on March 20, 2025, after being delayed from its initial February 2025 release window. The delay comes as a result of needing additional time to incorporate community feedback gathered over the past three months.
The decision was made in part due to the need for “better conditions for launch” and engaging with the growing Assassin’s Creed community. While this may seem like a reasonable reason, industry insiders are speculating that the true motivation behind the delay is avoiding competition from other major games releasing in February 2025.
This includes high-profile titles such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Civilization VII, Avowed, and Monster Hunter Wilds. By delaying Shadows to March, Ubisoft aims to avoid sharing a crowded release window with these larger games, potentially impacting its own popularity.
Despite concerns about the franchise’s fatigue, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla proved to be a massive seller in 2020. However, it remains to be seen whether this momentum will carry over to Shadows five years later. The game’s updated previews have shown improvement, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release in March 2025.
