AstraZeneca Brings FluMist Nasal Spray Vaccines Home for Convenience

AstraZeneca has launched an at-home delivery option for its flu vaccine, FluMist nasal spray, making it easier for parents to protect their children from the flu without visiting a doctor or pharmacy. The company announced that eligible customers can now order the vaccine online and have it shipped directly to their door.

FluMist is a live attenuated vaccine that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration since 2003. It was previously only available at pharmacies or healthcare facilities, but its new home delivery option allows for self-administration for eligible adults over 18 and caregiver administration for kids under 17.

The vaccine is not recommended for children with certain health conditions, such as asthma or those taking aspirin products, and is also not suitable for pregnant women. Parents are advised to consult their doctor before administering the vaccine to their child, especially if they have underlying health issues or weakened immune systems in their household.

AstraZeneca hopes that the new at-home option will boost vaccination rates this flu season, which has seen declining coverage among adults and children. The company says most insurance plans will cover the vaccine at no cost, with a maximum shipping fee of less than $10 for up to 4 doses.
