American astronaut Don Pettit recently took breathtaking photos of the International Space Station from his office in space. Using a long-exposure camera, he snapped stunning images of the Pacific Ocean from different shores around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, and Mexico.
One of his striking photographs shows Starlink satellites reflecting sunlight off their solar panels and atmospheric airglow above Earth’s surface. Pettit shared that his photo captures two irregular dwarf galaxies, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, as the ISS orbited 260 miles above the Pacific Ocean near Mexico’s coast.
Pettit employed long-exposure photography to capture these unique views from his SpaceX Dragon crew spacecraft docked at the ISS. His photos provide a glimpse into the stunning cosmic landscape visible from space.
