Astronauts Began Return Journey to Earth

Astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore are nearing their return to Earth after a nearly nine-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS). The pair expressed mixed emotions about leaving space, with Williams stating she will miss everything about it. Despite this, they both admitted missing their families.

The astronauts’ departure will begin when crew 10 arrives at the ISS, expected by no earlier than March 12. A handover period between crews is planned before crew nine returns home aboard the SpaceX Dragon capsule.

Wilmore expressed excitement for their return, saying they will “ride the plasma” and experience the thrill of re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere. The astronauts’ journey will conclude with a splashdown in the ocean.

Their extended stay in space has provided an opportunity to capture stunning views of the aurora borealis, which Williams mentioned earlier.
