Astronauts Complete Record-Breaking Spacewalk

NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers successfully completed their spacewalk on Saturday, marking a historic milestone in the International Space Station’s assembly and upgrades. The 5-hour and 44-minute excursion was the third for McClain and the first for Ayers, with the pair achieving all of their primary objectives.

These included relocating a critical communications antenna and installing initial mounting brackets for a future SpaceX resupply mission. The astronauts also completed two “get ahead” tasks: installing a jumper cable to provide power from the station’s P6 truss to its Russian segment, and removing bolts from a micrometeoroid cover.

The spacewalk was part of ongoing efforts to support station assembly, maintenance, and upgrades. As NASA continues to work on the ISS, stay up-to-date with the latest developments by following @space_station and @ISS_Research on X, or subscribing to NASA’s weekly newsletter for the latest news.
