The Houston Astros have made a major move ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline by acquiring shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins. The deal, confirmed to KPRC 2’s Ari Alexander, involves the Astros sending left-handed pitching prospect Matt Mikulski to the Twins.
Correa, a key player in the Astros’ 2017 World Series title and two AL pennants, previously signed with the Twins in 2022 on a three-year, $105.3 million deal. However, he has waived his no-trade clause to return to Houston, citing a desire to come home.
With third baseman Isaac Paredes expected to miss multiple months due to injury, Correa is likely to fill the infield void. The Twins will pay $33 million of the remaining $103.42 million on Correa’s contract.
Correa joins the Astros on an 11-year, $200 million deal, which he signed in 2023 as part of a six-year extension. He had a .267 batting average with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 2023.
