ASU Coach Hurley Skips Handshake After Ejections in Heated Rivalry Game

Arizona’s Caleb Love was ejected from the game after a confrontation with Arizona State’s BJ Freeman, while coach Bobby Hurley was also penalized with technical fouls and lost his tie. The Wildcats won the 81-72 matchup on the Sun Devils’ home court, but tensions ran high throughout the game.

Four technicals were handed down during the match, including two ejections. Love was assessed a technical after staring down the ASU bench and later got into a scuffle with Freeman, who also received a technical for head-butting Love. The official ejected both players from the game.

Coach Bobby Hurley called off his team’s postgame handshake, citing that some of the Wildcats’ players were being “sore winners” and exhibiting “no class.” He believes some Arizona players were not being properly policed during the game. Despite this, Hurley still expressed respect for Love’s abilities, saying he would likely get votes for all-conference awards.

The rivals will meet again on March 4 at Arizona’s campus.
