Video game developer Atari has acquired five dormant franchises from Ubisoft, including Child of Eden, Cold Fear, Grow Home, Grow Up, and I Am Alive. The classic titles will be re-released under Atari’s publishing label and made available on new platforms.
Ubisoft, which previously formed a subsidiary for its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands with a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent, has also partnered with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia for additional content in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
This strategic move comes as Ubisoft has faced pressure to succeed after the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which hit the game developer hard due to several high-profile flops and studio closures.
The re-released franchises are expected to appeal to both long-time fans and new audiences. “Millions of players have experienced these worlds over the years,” said Deborah Papiernik, Ubisoft’s VP of new business, adding that this re-release will allow them to revisit their memories while discovering the games for the first time.
Atari has a deep appreciation for classic titles and is excited to see how they evolve and connect with players. The company aims to bring these iconic creations to fresh audiences through renewed publishing frameworks.
