After three seasons, General Manager Landry Fields has been fired by the Atlanta Hawks, who missed the playoffs in his final two years on the job. Fields’ departure marks a significant change for the team, which is now led by Onsi Saleh and will begin a search for a new President of Basketball Operations.
According to principal owner Tony Ressler, the decision to part ways with Fields was made after evaluating the organization’s operations and identifying areas for improvement. “We are committed to providing the human and financial resources needed to ensure that we navigate these decisions with a high level of precision and foresight,” Ressler said.
Fields’ tenure was marked by significant decisions, including selecting Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft. The Hawks have talented players like Trae Young and Dyson Daniels, but have struggled to find consistent success in the playoffs.
Saleh brings experience from his time with the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs. He joins Saleh as a seasoned leader who will provide strategic direction and structure to the team.
The Hawks’ playoff drought continues, with their last series win coming in 2021’s Eastern Conference finals. With a new general manager and president of basketball operations on board, the team is poised to embark on a new era of growth and development.
