AT&T CEO John Stankey has told employees that they must work from the office five days a week if they want to keep their jobs. In an internal memo, Stankey acknowledged that some employees have been unhappy with the company’s return-to-office (RTO) mandate, but he said it is essential for collaboration and executing large-scale projects.
The policy change has been part of AT&T’s effort to shift its culture from a traditional hierarchy-based structure to a more market-driven, performance-oriented workplace. Stankey emphasized that employees who are unable or unwilling to adapt to this new approach should consider looking for other job opportunities.
According to a recent employee engagement survey, 79% of AT&T’s workforce reported feeling committed to their work, but overall engagement levels have declined. Stankey believes that the shift to an in-office mandate is necessary for the company’s success and that employees who are not willing to adapt should be prepared to find a new job.
Stankey’s memo highlighted the importance of collaboration and execution in achieving AT&T’s goals. He stated that employees who cannot adjust to this new work environment may struggle to align their priorities with those of the company and its culture.
