Aubrey Plaza Opens Up About Grief After Jeff Baena’s Death

Actress Aubrey Plaza has spoken candidly about her grief since the death of her husband, screenwriter and film director Jeff Baena. In an interview with Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, Plaza described life as a “daily struggle” following Baena’s suicide in January. The 50 Shades of Grey actress likened her pain to The Gorge, an action-horror movie, comparing her grief to a chasm between two towers.

Plaza said the analogy began as a joke but also represents how she feels, with her grief being the gap between the towers and the “giant ocean of awfulness” that surrounds her. Baena was 47 when he died, leaving Plaza to cope with the loss alone after his passing in 2021.

The actress has been open about her struggles since Baena’s death, releasing a statement at the time saying she was grateful for the support from their friends and family. News of Baena’s passing sent shockwaves through the Hollywood community, with many tributes pouring in from colleagues like Alison Brie and Adam Pally.
