Audacy Restructures Workforce Amid Industry Changes

Audacy, now operating as a private company, is undergoing significant changes as it streamlines its workforce to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving media landscape. The restructuring affects employees across various markets, including Boston, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Detroit, Kansas City, and New Orleans.

According to a spokesperson, the company made workforce reductions to ensure a strong and resilient future for Audacy. This move aims to position the business for excellence in serving listeners and advertisers.

Notable changes include David O’Leary’s departure from AC “Magic 106.7” WMJX Boston after 20 years, and the cancellation of local weeknight programming on WCCO Minneapolis due to layoffs among its on-air staff. The entire on-air team at urban contemporary station WHHL St. Louis was also let go.

Other market stations have been impacted, including “98.9 The Rock” KQRC, where Johnny Dare exited after 32 years in his morning show role. These changes come after the company’s CEO and CFO, David Field and Rich Schmaeling, stepped down, following a successful Chapter 11 restructuring process that was completed in January 2024.
