Austin Butler’s Real-Life Baseball Inspiration for New Movie Role

Austin Butler, 34, played a baseball player in his new movie “Caught Stealing”. To prepare, director Darren Aronofsky sent him pictures of Major League Baseball players’ butts. Butler collaborated with trainer Beth Lewis to gain weight and eat more pizza and beer. He initially weighed 150 pounds before reaching 185 pounds six months later.

Butler has changed his approach to preparing for roles in recent years. In the past, he thought it had to be a “tortured process” but now believes in integrating himself more fully. This shift came after his experience with the 2022 film “Elvis”, where he earned an Academy Award nomination. Butler found it hard to adjust to life outside of acting and relied on personal connections when filming becomes overwhelming.

The new movie, “Caught Stealing”, is set for release on August 29.
