Rory Callum Sykes, a British-Australian motivational speaker, philanthropist, and former child star, has died in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires this week. His mother, Shelley Sykes, announced his death on social media, describing him as a “wonderful son” and “true humanitarian.” Born blind and living with cerebral palsy, Sykes overcame numerous challenges to achieve great success.
Sykes’ life was marked by appearances on British and Australian TV shows as a child, before becoming a professional inspirational speaker. He also worked as a consultant for organizations such as the Tony Robbins Foundation and the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Additionally, he co-founded the Happy Charity alongside his mother.
Tragically, Sykes died from carbon monoxide poisoning after being stuck inside his family’s 17-acre Malibu estate during the wildfires. His mother said she was unable to reach him due to downed phone lines and a lack of water, despite efforts by emergency services. The Los Angeles County fires have been fueled by high winds and dry conditions, with multiple wildfires burning across the region.
Sykes’ death is a devastating loss for his family, friends, and fans, who will remember his inspiring story and charitable work.
