Australian Relative’s Cousin Among 59 Killed in North Macedonia Nightclub Fire

A deadly nightclub fire in North Macedonia has left an Australian relative’s family reeling, with anger and grief turning to frustration over authorities’ negligence.

Sara Projkovska, a talented musician and lead vocalist of the hip hop group DNK, died while performing on stage at Club Pulse when pyrotechnics ignited a fire that killed at least 59 people and injured 150 more.

Projkovska was a well-respected musician and music professor who had performed internationally, including at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her family said she died doing what she loved – singing.

The blaze has sparked outrage over the venue’s unlicensed operation, with officials arrested for corruption. The Australian lawyer who lost her cousin described the situation as “systemic incompetence”.

North Macedonia has declared 7 days of national mourning to honor the victims of the tragedy.
