A 34-year-old woman from the Sunshine Coast has been charged with poisoning a one-year-old girl and allegedly posting videos of the infant’s suffering online to garner donations. The woman is accused of administering unauthorized prescription medicines to the child without medical approval, causing immense distress and pain.
The alleged abuse took place between August 6 and October 15, 2024, and it is claimed that the woman also filmed and posted videos of the child to exploit them and attract online followers. Testing for the unauthorized medicines revealed a positive result on January 7, leading to her arrest on Thursday.
The woman faces five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, one count each of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud. Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said that his unit deals with the “worst offenses against children” and will do everything in their power to protect the child and hold offenders accountable.
The woman appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until January 28.
