Austria has ended its political deadlock after five months with the swearing-in of a new three-party government on Monday. President Alexander van der Bellen officially welcomed Conservative People’s Party (ÖVP) leader Christian Stocker as the prime minister, alongside center-left Social Democrats (SPÖ) and liberal Neos parties. In his address, Van der Bellen noted that forming the coalition demonstrated the willingness of all parties to work together for the country’s benefit. This marks an end to a period dominated by far-right politics following last September’s election victory.
