After seeking a change from traditional options, I booked a table for seven at Manchego, a Spanish restaurant that offered an authentic culinary experience. The manager kindly accommodated my request, seating us together in a private “back room” despite the initial online reservation limit.
Manchego’s menu boasts a range of expertly curated Spanish dishes and an impressive wine list featuring a variety of regional wines, including Tempranillo and Grenache. We enjoyed a selection of appetizers, with the Serrano ham and crispy croquettes standing out. The main courses were also impressive, particularly the tender beef rib and Brussels sprouts.
However, our experience was tempered by the paella, which fell short of expectations due to the rice’s texture and variety of proteins. Desserts, including flan, flourless chocolate cake, and churros with melted chocolate, were a delightful conclusion to the meal.
What sets Manchego apart is its authentic Spanish cuisine, expertly prepared by owner Merv Hecht, a Jewish Persian gentleman who has clearly captured the essence of his homeland’s culinary traditions. With friendly waitstaff and an affordable wine list, Manchego offers a welcoming atmosphere for diners seeking a unique gastronomic experience.
