A third location in Hawaii has confirmed avian flu cases, affecting a backyard flock at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s Animal Industry Division euthanized nine birds from the affected flock after two ducks adopted from Susie’s Duck Sanctuary tested positive for the virus.
The family that adopted the infected ducks had seven other ducks euthanized as a precautionary measure, but fortunately, no other infections have been reported. The property has since been sanitized to prevent further spread of the disease. This incident highlights the ongoing risk of avian flu and the importance of proper animal care and quarantine measures in preventing its spread.
