The cold open featured Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in an impression by Colin Jost and President Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, who stopped by to mock SNL and its handling of news. Jeremy Culhane joined Jost shortly after.
Bad Bunny confidently took over the show, incorporating his music into familiar sketches. He also mentioned being selected as the 2026 Super Bowl halftime performer. During his monologue, he poked fun at himself in Spanish and referenced Fox News hosts loving him. The rapper cycled through various roles, including contestants on Jeopardy! and a schoolchild who threatened his principal.
Cameos included K-Pop Demon Hunters, Benicio Del Toro, Jon Hamm, and Taylor Swift was initially considered but didn’t make it into the episode. Doja Cat showcased her rapping skills with hits from her new album “Vie.” The show also saw the introduction of new cast member Kam Patterson in a humorous segment.
The format of “Weekend Update” remained steady, while Michael Che and Colin Jost brought some novelty to their usual routine. Overall, the season premiere had a star-studded lineup and introduced five new faces to the SNL family.
