Bafta Winner Micheal Ward Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault

British actor Micheal Ward, known for roles in Top Boy, Small Axe, and Blue Story, has been charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The 27-year-old, who won the Rising Star prize at the Bafta Film Awards last year, denies all charges.

The Metropolitan Police said the alleged offences took place in January 2023 and relate to one woman. Ward is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on August 28. Investigators say they are supporting the woman who made a report, urging people not to share any information online that could prejudice the proceedings.

Ward’s charges stem from an investigation that has caused significant distress for those involved. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the police to proceed with the case after reviewing evidence. Ward’s lawyer says he will be defending himself against the charges.
