Baftas Shocks as Underdog Conclave Wins Big

The British Film Academy has handed out some surprises at its annual awards ceremony. Edward Berger’s psychological thriller “Conclave” took home top honors in both Best Picture and Outstanding British Film, beating favorites like “The Brutalist” and “Anora”.

However, the most shocking snub was the omission of Ralph Fiennes for his portrayal of Christopher Reeve in “Honorable”. The film was a decent effort, but ultimately fell short of expectations.

Emilia Pérez’s drama “Kneecap”, which had a dismal awards season overall, won two awards at the Baftas, including Best Film Not in the English Language. The win for supporting actress Zoe Saldaña also hinted that her film might fare better in the Oscars.

The BBC was also criticized for its handling of potential controversy during the ceremony, including deleting quotes from host David Tennant and cutting a significant news story about director Jacques Audiard’s past social media incidents.

On a lighter note, Jesse Eisenberg’s three winning appearances at the Baftas were met with praise, with fans of his performances likely to be pleased with A Real Pain’s wins. Meanwhile, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl took home both Best Animation and Family Film prizes, making it a big win for the Beeb and Netflix.
