Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen a significant boost in player numbers on Steam following the release of Patch 8, setting developer Larian up nicely to focus on its next big game. The latest update added 12 new subclasses to the game, sparking a surge in player interest as fans flocked to test out the new content.
On Steam, Baldur’s Gate 3 hit a record-high concurrent peak of 169,267 players over the weekend, an impressive feat for a single-player focused role-playing game. The success of Patch 8 has given Larian confidence that the game will continue to thrive due to thriving mod support, according to chief Swen Vincke.
Vincke expressed optimism about the future of Baldur’s Gate 3, stating that the game will “continue to do well for quite some time” thanks to its dedicated community and mod support. This confidence allows Larian to focus on its next big project, which it has teased as a new mystery game.
Hasbro, the owner of D&D, has also expressed interest in continuing the series with a potential Baldur’s Gate 4. However, the development process is expected to take time due to the complexity and scope of the project. Larian chief Swen Vincke acknowledged that “we’ve got big shoes to fill,” but remains committed to delivering high-quality experiences for fans.
With Patch 8 now complete, Larian can finally focus on its next major undertaking, building on the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 while also leaving a lasting legacy for the D&D franchise.
