Banksy’s Latest Street Art Revealed in Marseille, France

Art lovers have been left to speculate about the meaning of Banksy’s latest graffiti, featuring a lighthouse and a message that reads “I want to be what you saw in me.” The artwork has appeared on a wall in southern French port city of Marseille, with Banksy sharing two photos on his Instagram page.

Banksy is known for addressing issues such as war, poverty, government corruption, consumerism, and social injustice. However, the potential meaning behind this latest street art is unclear. Art dealer MyArtBroker has suggested that it may touch on perspective, meaning, and marginalized voices due to Marseille’s status as a hub for migration and cultural exchange.

The quote used by Banksy bears similarities to a song by country band Lonestar, but its origin remains unclear. This artwork follows other recent works by Banksy in London, including animal-themed pieces and one featuring a gorilla at the London Zoo.
