Barcelona booked their spot in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals with a convincing 5-1 win over Real Betis on Wednesday. Teenage forward Lamine Yamal was instrumental in the victory, scoring once and making two assists.
The Catalan giants dominated proceedings from the start, taking just three minutes to open the scoring through Gavi’s low strike after Dani Olmo’s assist. Jules Koundé then doubled their lead in the 27th minute with a volley from close range after Yamal’s lobbed pass.
Barca continued to pressure Betis, and Raphinha netted their third goal in the 58th minute from a counter-attack started by Yamal. Ferran Torres scored the fourth in the 67th minute, followed by Yamal’s fifth in the 75th after a VAR decision corrected an initial offside ruling.
Brazilian forward Vitor Roque scored a consolation for Betis from the penalty spot in the 84th minute, but it was too little, too late. The win marked Barcelona’s third consecutive Spanish Super Cup title and set them up well for their quarter-final showdown in the Copa del Rey.
