Barclays Ex-CEO Jes Staley Denies Misleading FCA on Epstein Ties

Barclays former CEO Jes Staley is defending himself against a proposed financial services ban, claiming he was unaware of Jeffrey Epstein’s “monstrous activities”. Staley, 68, told the London Upper Tribunal that he had no idea about Epstein’s sex trafficking allegations and denied misleading regulators over their relationship. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) alleges that Staley misled them by stating he did not have a close relationship with Epstein and their last contact was before he joined Barclays in 2015. However, emails between Staley and Epstein reveal a more intimate friendship, including references to “Snow White” and “Beauty and the Beast”. Staley’s appeal centers on a letter sent by Barclays Chair Nigel Higgins to the FCA, which he claims accurately reflects their relationship.
