A team of astronomers has discovered a family of four planets orbiting the nearest single star to the Sun, Barnard’s star. Located about six light-years from Earth, this red dwarf star hosts the planets, which are estimated to be two to three times the mass of Mars. The discovery was published in the March 20 issue of the Astrophysical Journal Letters and sheds new light on the possibility of life beyond our solar system.
