Barstool Sports Founder Calls Out WNBA Investigation of Alleged “Hateful Comments”

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy pushed back against allegations that he witnessed “hateful comments” toward Angel Reese during the Chicago Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever. The WNBA has launched an investigation into the matter, but Portnoy claims there is no truth to it.

According to Portnoy, who was courtside at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse wearing a Caitlin Clark jersey, the only “hate” he saw came from Reese after Clark hit her with a hard foul in the third quarter. However, Portnoy disputed the notion that there were hateful comments made towards Reese during the game.

“The crowd at the Fever game? Little girls, families, ladies, nice crowd,” Portnoy said. “Were we mad when Angel Reese attacked Caitlin Clark for no reason? Yeah. Did we boo her? Yeah. Is it sports? Yeah.”

Portnoy criticized the WNBA and Indiana Fever for acknowledging the investigation without concrete evidence. He claimed that the league is “killing the golden goose” by issuing statements that lend credibility to unfounded rumors.

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) released a statement supporting the WNBA’s investigation, stating that such behavior is unacceptable in their sport and will be addressed swiftly.

The Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever have four more matchups on the docket this season.
