Electronic Arts has unveiled its latest first-person shooter, Battlefield 6, which promises to deliver an even more immersive gaming experience than its predecessors. The game’s sprawling multiplayer mode allows players to engage in battles across nine maps at launch, including four playable during the open beta.
One of the notable features of Battlefield 6 is the return of character classes, which have been revamped with new Training systems that allow for further customization. Players can “level up” their characters by supporting teammates, defeating opponents, and playing objectives to earn buffs that amplify their unique abilities.
There are four main classes: Assault, Recon, Engineer, and Support, each with its own signature weapon and gadgets. The Assault class wields an assault rifle and combat stimulants, while the Recon class excels at long-range shots. The Engineer class can repair vehicles and deal significant damage to them using Anti-Armor training.
Tactical destruction is another key feature of Battlefield 6, allowing players to create new battle lines by crashing through obstacles or leveling walls with grenades. The game’s emphasis on “tactical” gameplay aims to make the experience more predictable, making it easier for players to use destruction as a strategy in firefights.
Kinesthetic combat also takes center stage in Battlefield 6, introducing a system that telegraphs information about recoil, helping players learn to compensate for it and stay on target. This feature is accompanied by new tactics like peeking and leaning into cover, making close-quarters engagements more dynamic.
The game’s four playable maps during the open beta showcase its scale and intensity. Liberation Peak features a massive mountainside battlefield, while Siege of Cairo offers dense city fighting with buildings at risk of being reduced to rubble. The final two maps, Empire State and Iberian Offensive, provide an infantry-only experience in Brooklyn streets.
Battlefield 6’s modes include Squad Deathmatch, Domination, Conquest, and Breakthrough. These modes cater to different playstyles, from close-quarters combat to large-scale army battles, with a focus on teamwork and communication.
Overall, Battlefield 6 seems poised to revitalise the series’ best elements while amplifying its devastation factor. The open beta is set for two weekends this month, followed by the full game’s launch on October 10.
