Battlefield Franchise Sees Major Overhaul Ahead of New Game Launch

EA and DICE are working to change their formula after a string of disastrous launches with their first-person shooter franchise. The studio has been conducting extensive playtests, including for a free-to-play battle royale mode, in an effort to avoid another messy launch like Battlefield 2042. This time around, four studios are contributing resources to the game, with DICE taking the lead.

The next Battlefield game is set to have a modern setting and will reportedly include a campaign. Fans’ feedback has been instrumental in shaping the game’s development, as the studio seeks to learn from past mistakes. Battlefield 1, which released eight years ago, recently received an anti-cheat update, demonstrating the importance of ongoing support for the franchise.

EA acknowledges that the series has had some rough launches, with Battlefield 2042 receiving criticism on Steam and Battlefield 5 launching in a rough shape. The company vowed to improve its processes after the launch of Battlefield 4, which was considered “unacceptable.” However, it remains to be seen whether these efforts will pay off for the new game.

The development process is being closely monitored by hardcore fans, who are optimistic that this time around, the franchise will finally experience a smooth launch. With multiple playtests underway and fan feedback being actively sought, the Battlefield franchise appears to be taking steps in the right direction.
