Two public health agencies in the Bay Area have issued a warning to residents after a person tested positive for measles. The infected individual returned from international travel in May and is currently isolating at home. However, there may have been exposures at several locations, including H Mart in San Jose, Starbucks in Newark, Trader Joe’s in Milpitas, and another location which has not been disclosed.
Residents who were present at these locations between the specified dates are advised to monitor their health for 7-21 days after potential exposure. Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash. If symptoms occur, individuals should contact a medical facility before visiting to take protective measures.
To equip the public with preventative knowledge, both agencies will hold a press conference on Friday at 9:30 a.m. to discuss prevention measures, steps for those exposed, and information about measles vaccines. Experts from both agencies will be in attendance, including Dr. Sarah Rudman of Santa Clara County Public Health Department and Dr. Kavita Trivedi of Alameda County Public Health Department.
