Kansas suffered its largest blown lead in school history as Baylor rallied from a 21-point deficit to win 81-70 on Saturday afternoon. The Bears, led by freshman guard Robert Wright’s 24 points, became the first Big 12 team to defeat Kansas five consecutive times at home under Bill Self.
The Jayhawks led by 21 points with just over two minutes remaining but couldn’t close out the game. Baylor took command with a 26-6 run in the second half and eventually took the lead. Norchad Omier scored 18 points, while Jalen Celestine added 12 to help the Bears secure their fifth consecutive home win over Kansas.
Kansas’s Hunter Dickinson had 20 points before fouling out, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. The loss marks KU’s first 0-2 start in its new Foster Pavilion and puts an end to its winning streak. Baylor’s victory is a testament to the team’s resilience and ability to bounce back from adversity.
The Jayhawks will face Iowa State on Monday, having played host to Kansas State just hours earlier in Ames. Rakease Passmore, who was left home due to injury concerns, has been used sparingly in Big 12 play for KU this season. The team will look to regroup and get back on track against the Cyclones.
