BBC Passes on Kneecap Set Over Fears of Anti-Israel Sentiment

The BBC has declined to stream Irish hip hop group Kneecap’s set at the Glastonbury Festival due to concerns that their music may contain anti-British and pro-Palestinian messages. The decision comes after Kneecap’s member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who is facing a terror charge in the UK, led chants of “Free Palestine” during their performance.

However, despite this decision, similar messages have been shared on social media by another artist who performed before Kneecap. Bob Vylan’s set was livestreamed and featured chants against Israel and calls for Palestinian freedom. The BBC’s decision has not stopped anti-Israel sentiments from being expressed online.

The move to not stream Kneecap’s performance may prove beneficial for UK police, as they will now be tasked with monitoring statements made by the group to determine if any laws were broken. According to local police, video evidence will be assessed to see if any crimes were committed that would warrant a criminal investigation.
