Ron Saloman, a Boston College fanatic, has been recognized as the school’s first and most loyal superfan after attending nearly seven decades of football home games. The streak began in 1957 when Saloman attended the first-ever game at Alumni Stadium, unaware he was starting one that would last until his passing. Since then, he has watched over 400 of 402 BC home games, earning him a place in the stadium’s record books.
Saloman, now 91, has been an ardent supporter since his teenage years when he witnessed Boston Yanks football at Fenway Park and attended Northeastern University. He eventually became a distinguished lawyer but prioritized attending BC games over other commitments. The family man even moved his son’s Bar Mitzvah to avoid missing a game.
Saloman has seen many notable moments, including Tony Dorsett’s debut for Pittsburgh and Bo Jackson’s Auburn team outlast Doug Flutie’s Eagles in the Tangerine Bowl. He also attended the Miracle in Miami in 1984 but was unable to participate due to his injured knee.
The Eagles commemorated Saloman’s milestone during Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh with a ceremony midway through the second quarter. As he took the field, sporting a maroon BC jacket and hat, he proudly hoisted his cane to salute the crowd.
For Saloman, Saturdays are sacred as he attends games almost every weekend. His love for the sport has led him to meet many coaches and athletic directors. The veteran sports fan remains committed to attending BC games until his passing.
Saloman’s remarkable dedication is a testament to his unwavering loyalty to Boston College football.
