Bears Acquire Guard Jonah Jackson in Trade

The Chicago Bears are overhauling their offensive line with the acquisition of guard Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams. The trade, which cannot be processed until March 12, sends a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Rams in exchange for Jackson’s rights.

Jackson, 28, has started 61 games over five seasons, including a Pro Bowl campaign in 2021. He will earn $17.5 million in salary during the 2025 season, which the Bears will take on fully as part of the trade. The move aims to address quarterback Caleb Williams’ league-high 68 sacks in his rookie season.

The Rams head coach Sean McVay praised Jackson’s professionalism and work ethic, stating he was a “scout teamer” who put the team first. Chicago’s new coach Ben Johnson has acknowledged that overhaul of the interior line is necessary, citing examples like the Carolina Panthers’ transformation last offseason.

Jackson previously played for the Detroit Lions, starting 57 games from 2020-23. He will join an offensive line set to hit free agency, which includes left guard Teven Jenkins and center Coleman Shelton. The trade marks a significant shift in the Bears’ plan to address multiple needs up front this offseason.
