Bears GM Ryan Poles Hails Partnership with New Coach Ben Johnson

Bears general manager Ryan Poles has expressed his optimism about the partnership between him and new coach Ben Johnson, stating that their relationship has been “outstanding”. Poles attributes this to the thorough interview process he conducted on Johnson, which was confirmed by the construction of his staff.

The defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, boasts 23 years of NFL experience, including six as a head coach and eight as a defensive coordinator. Poles notes that the addition of Allen, along with other coaches like offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, brings diverse experiences to support Johnson.

Poles credits the football operations department for facilitating a smooth transition, particularly in onboarding new staff members. He emphasizes the importance of being well-prepared and set up, as this can significantly impact the team’s ability to adapt quickly.

In discussions with Johnson, Allen, and Doyle, Poles has explored scheme changes and player traits that align with their vision. He praises Johnson for his clear communication about what he looks for in players, citing a high football IQ that sets him apart from previous coaches.

Poles believes this clarity will enable the Bears to be aggressive in free agency, which begins on March 12. By having a well-defined vision, they can make informed decisions and select players who fit their needs, rather than holding back unnecessarily.
