The Chicago Bears have agreed to a two-year contract extension with guard Joe Thuney, according to agent Mike McCartney. The deal is worth $17.5 million per season, making his new three-year contract worth $51 million, with $33.5 million fully guaranteed.
Thuney was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs in March and was entering the final year of a five-year, $80 million contract. Bears general manager Ryan Poles had previously stated that extending Thuney was a priority this offseason.
The new deal provides continuity along the Bears’ interior offensive line, with Thuney, center Drew Dalman, and guard Jonah Jackson all under contract through the 2027 season. In Kansas City, Thuney formed a core with center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith that made up 85% of the team’s interior line plays over the last four seasons.
Thuney is coming off two consecutive Pro Bowl selections and was named MVP by his teammates last season. He has started 146 games in nine NFL seasons, missing just two contests, and boasts a pass block win rate of 97.8% over the past two seasons.
