Beaverton Man Wins $328.5 Million Powerball Jackpot

A 79-year-old man from Beaverton has won a record-breaking $328.5 million Oregon Lottery Powerball jackpot. Abbas Shafii purchased the winning ticket on January 17 at the Fred Meyer store on SW Walker Road and chose to take the lump sum option, worth $146.4 million.

Shafii expressed his excitement about the win, stating he plans to use his prize to travel, invest, and support nonprofit organizations close to his heart. The Oregon Lottery will return approximately one-third of Powerball game sales to the state, supporting various causes such as economic development, public education, and veteran services.

The Fred Meyer store that sold the winning ticket earned a $100,000 bonus and has pledged to donate $50,000 to the Oregon Food Bank. The lottery recommends that players sign their tickets and seek professional advice on managing their winnings.
