Belgian Actress Emilie Dequenne Dies of Rare Cancer at 43

Belgian actress Emilie Dequenne has passed away at the age of 43 due to a rare form of cancer, according to her family and agent. In October 2023, she revealed that she was suffering from adrenocortical carcinoma, a type of cancer affecting the adrenal gland.

Dequenne’s career took off after winning Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in the 1999 film “Rosetta,” directed by the Dardenne brothers. She went on to win numerous awards for her performances in French-language films, including “The Girl on the Train” (2009) and “Our Children” (2012).

In 2024, Dequenne returned to Cannes to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her triumph and promote the English-language disaster movie “Survive.” The film was her last appearance before she was forced to stop working due to illness.
