Beloved Animated Series ‘King of the Hill’ and ‘Gumball’ Return with New Seasons

Two classic animated series, ‘King of the Hill’ and ‘The Amazing World of Gumball,’ have finally returned with new seasons on Hulu. The revival of ‘King of the Hill,’ which initially aired from 1997 to 2009, features 10 fresh episodes streaming Monday. Meanwhile, ‘The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball’ boasts a 20-episode season and is available now.

The creators of both shows have remained true to their original vision, with ‘King of the Hill’ aging up its characters in a way that feels both natural and relieving. The voice actors, including Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Kathy Najimy, discussed returning to their roles and how they updated their characters’ voices.

In contrast, ‘Gumball’ showcases its unique blend of visual styles, incorporating traditional 2-D animation, puppet animation, photo collage, and live-action elements. The show’s main characters, including Gumball, a blue cat with a pink rabbit sister, navigate the challenges of middle school while confronting real-world issues like capitalism and consumerism.

While both series have aged well, ‘King of the Hill’ has returned to its roots in a way that feels nostalgic yet fresh. The new season explores themes of retirement, love, and finding one’s place in life, all set against the backdrop of an everyday middle-class Texas suburb.

The quality of writing and performances remains high, with the voice cast delivering strong performances. ‘Gumball,’ too, continues to push boundaries with its dark humor and willingness to tackle complex issues. With both series back on our screens, fans can once again indulge in their favorite cartoons and discover new favorites.
