Character actor Jack Betts, known for starring in spaghetti Westerns and appearing in notable films like Spider-Man, has died. He was 96.
Betts passed away Thursday in his sleep at home in Los Osos, California. His nephew, Dean Sullivan, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.
The actor had a long career, with stints on soap operas such as One Life to Live and General Hospital. He also appeared in several films, including Sugar Colt and Gods and Monsters.
Betts befriended Everybody Loves Raymond actress Doris Roberts, with whom he shared a home and attended events throughout Hollywood from the late 1980s until her death in April 2016.
Born on April 11, 1929, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Betts studied theater at the University of Miami before moving to New York. He made his Broadway debut in 1953 and later earned a scholarship to The Actors Studio.
Betts had roles in several notable TV series, including Gunsmoke and Frasier.
