Alice Hirson, the actress who played a confidante of Barbara Bel Geddes’ Miss Ellie Ewing on Dallas and appeared in numerous daytime soap operas, has died. She was 95.
Born Alice Corinne Thorsell in Brooklyn on March 10, 1929, Hirson began her acting career at a young age, graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1948. Her early performances included appearances on TV anthology series Hallmark Hall of Fame and summer stock productions.
Hirson’s extensive resume spanned stage and screen, with notable roles on shows such as General Hospital, Loving, and Home Fires, as well as films like Private Benjamin and Revenge of the Nerds. She played her most iconic role as Mavis Anderson on 26 episodes of Dallas from 1982-88.
Her career continued to thrive in the 1990s, with a recurring role on Ellen and appearances on various other TV shows. After marrying Roger O. Hirson in 1952, they collaborated on several projects, including the hit Broadway musical Pippin.
Alice Hirson is survived by her two sons, David and Christopher, and a grandson. Her legacy as a stage actress and daytime soap opera star will be remembered by those who had the privilege of working alongside her or watching her performances.
