Ben Affleck has set the record straight on the “root causes” of his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, stating that the real reason is much more ordinary than anyone might believe. The actor and Lopez finalized their divorce in January, roughly two years after getting married at his Georgia estate.
According to Affleck, the different approaches they took towards fame were mentioned as the cause of their split after the premiere of Lopez’s documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.” However, Affleck emphasized that it wasn’t the cause of some major fracture.
Affleck explained that he wanted to participate in the documentary in an honest and interesting way, but his temperament is more reserved and private than Lopez’s. He stated that he loves and supports Lopez and believes in her, and he wants people to see that.
The actor also shared that there was no big moment that brought their marriage to an end. He emphasized that the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or be interesting. Affleck praised Garner as his co-parent and partner, saying they work well together.
Affleck’s divorce from Garner in 2018 marked a stark turnaround from his red carpet life, while he has rekindled his relationship with Lopez. The couple married in 2022 and finalized their divorce in January 2025.
