Ben Starr and Jennifer English Talk Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Unique JRPG Experience

The highly anticipated JRPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is finally on the horizon, and stars Ben Starr and Jennifer English are excited to share their experiences with the game. As they’ve been given the chance to build characters from scratch after their breakout roles in Final Fantasy 16 and Baldur’s Gate 3, respectively, they’re eager to dive into a new creative challenge.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Starr and English discuss their characters, Verso and Maelle, who will be at the center of the game’s intriguing story. Maelle is described as the “beating heart and emotional core” of the game, while Verso is shrouded in mystery and importance.

For both actors, this new project represents a dream come true – to create characters that inspire artistic expression and fan engagement. Starr notes that he wanted to build a character who was iconic from the ground up, allowing him to bring his own humanity to the role. English agrees, stating that the writing was so brilliant that they could simply bring themselves to their characters.

The result is a game that feels authentic and real, with imperfections retained to make the characters feel like human beings with flaws. Starr hopes that this will be conveyed in the final product, showcasing that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is indeed one of those rare JRPGs that come around very often.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to release on April 24, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
