Bethesda is reportedly set to announce its remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the coming weeks, with a release date expected soon after. According to reports, NatetheHate and VGC corroborated that the announcement will be made either this month or next month.
The scope of the project remains unclear, but it’s likely to launch before June, with possible windows ranging from April to just before June. This comes after an allegedly leaked document from a former employee at Virtuos, which revealed details about the remake using Unreal Engine 5 and significant gameplay changes.
These changes include tweaks to Blocking, Sneak, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the heads-up display (HUD), aimed at making the game more engaging for action games and Soulslikes fans. The knockdown from Stamina depletion is reported to be harder to trigger, while Sneak icons are now highlighted with revamped damage calculation.
The remaster of Oblivion was initially mentioned in 2023 during a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) trial over Microsoft’s buyout of Activision Blizzard. A list of unannounced Bethesda games, including the Oblivion Remaster, was published ahead of Microsoft’s purchase in July 2020.
While some details remain unclear, it seems Bethesda has decided to go big on this project, potentially changing its scope from a simple remaster. With Microsoft focusing on multi-platform releases and the Nintendo Switch 2 release window looming, Oblivion may open up more than just PC, Xbox, and PlayStation options for players.
