Beyoncé Makes History as Queen of Grammys

After years of being snubbed for the top prize, Beyoncé finally won the Grammy for album of the year on Sunday, taking home her fifth nomination in the category. Her “Act II: Cowboy Carter” album earned excitement from attendees and online viewers alike, marking vindication for the Queen Bey.

The perceived snub in 2017 sparked discussion about racism within the Recording Academy, with only three other Black women having previously won the award. However, Beyoncé’s win brings her total Grammy wins to a record-breaking number, solidifying her position as the most-awarded artist in history.

Beyoncé’s album was met with mixed reviews from country music fans, who debated whether her genre-bending project fit into their community. Luke Bryan weighed in on the debate, stating that everyone loved Beyoncé’s attempt at country music but encouraged artists to “come into our world and be country with us.”

The Grammy win also came as a tribute to Linda Martel, the first commercially successful Black female country artist, whom Beyoncé dedicated her album of the year win to. Following the ceremony, Beyoncé announced her forthcoming Cowboy Carter Rodeo Chitlin Circuit Tour, which will take her to cities across the US and Europe.
