The premiere episode of Beyond the Gates, the latest daytime drama on CBS, has garnered impressive viewership numbers. In its first week, the show attracted 2.28 million viewers in L+3, an increase of 78% from The Talk’s audience last year.
Streaming provided a significant boost to the show, accounting for 13.6% more views than its linear-only audience. This surpassed other CBS daytime dramas, including The Young and the Restless (10.9%) and The Bold and the Beautiful (12.6%).
L+7-day viewing revealed that the premiere episode averaged 3.0 million viewers, higher than the last day-to-day debut in 1999. Beyond the Gates also tied with General Hospital in total viewers and outperformed it in key demographics.
The show’s audience skews predominantly Black, making up 55% of its viewership, compared to 29%, 30%, and 22% for Y&R, B&B, and GH respectively.
Creator Michele Val Jean expressed excitement about the show’s premiere performance, while CBS praises its success. The network notes that the show achieved a 9-share, surpassing the ratings of Passions in 1999, which had only a 7-share at launch.
Despite mixed opinions on the show’s acting and writing, many viewers are enjoying it, with some even predicting its potential for long-term success.
