Bezos Backs Trump’s DOGE Agenda Amid Musk Cooperation Hopes

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has expressed support for President-elect Donald Trump’s deregulation agenda, backed by a new administration called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The DOGE is led by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and biotech founder Vivek Ramaswamy. In a recent interview at the New York Times DealBook Summit 2024, Bezos said he’s optimistic about Trump winning a second term and would help reduce regulation. He also mentioned that Trump seems calmer and more settled this time around.

Bezos’ gesture could be seen as a strategic move to mend fences with Musk, who has been positioning SpaceX as a key partner to the government. However, Bezos emphasized that he trusts Musk’s pledge not to leverage his position for personal gain. Bezos himself has had success in life by avoiding cynicism and instead opting for cooperation.

Despite the potential collaboration between Bezos and Musk, their past relationship is complicated due to personal and professional clashes. Trump has previously criticized Bezos, targeting the Washington Post and Amazon, which Bezos owns. It remains to be seen whether Trump will accept Bezos’ offer and work with him on the DOGE agenda.
